Product Review: A Stylish Portable Smart Projector That Can Only Be Used in Dark Environments

In recent years, portable projectors have garnered a lot of attention. These projectors are compact, sleek, and aesthetically pleasing, making them particularly appealing to "appearance-conscious" users like me. However, to maintain their lightweight design, portable projectors typically use LED light sources, resulting in lower brightness. The size and performance of the image processing chips are also limited, which directly impacts the projector's resolution. Today, I'll be unboxing and reviewing such a portable projector.

Exterior Design

The portable projector boasts an exquisite and compact design. The gunmetal gray casing feels comfortable to the touch and exudes a strong sense of technology. Its size is very compact, roughly the same width and height as an iPhone 15 Pro Max, making it easy to slip into a backpack or handbag, allowing you to enjoy a large-screen viewing experience anytime, anywhere.

The standout feature, however, is its 360° free rotation. With its built-in desktop stand, the projector can rotate freely in all directions, offering a more flexible projection angle and viewing style. You can point the projector at a wall and make fine adjustments to get the best projection angle, or even rotate it to the ceiling for watching movies while lying in bed.

Projection Image Quality

The projector has a brightness of 200 ANSI lumens, which struggles significantly in daylight or brightly lit environments, causing the image to become severely washed out. In such conditions, it is almost unwatchable, let alone considering contrast and color accuracy.

In a completely dark environment, the projector’s 720P resolution provides a clear image, with satisfactory detail when watching HD videos. However, compared to projectors with 1080P or higher resolutions, the difference in image sharpness is noticeable. In terms of color, the reproduction is fairly accurate, showcasing rich and vibrant colors that make the visuals more vivid and lifelike. While the contrast is average, the projector still manages to clearly display details in both dark and bright areas of the image.

Functions

  • Built-in Android 9.0 Operating System. This smart projector runs on the Android 9.0 OS, supporting the installation of various applications such as video streaming apps, games, office software, and more. Users can download and install their preferred apps according to their needs, expanding the projector’s functionality.

The OS interface is simple and intuitive, making it easy and quick to operate. Users can easily control the projector and manage different settings and operations using the remote control.

  • Wireless Screen Mirroring. The system comes with built-in wireless screen mirroring apps like the Miracast and AirScreen, allowing users to easily mirror the screen content from devices such as smartphones, tablets, and laptops onto the projector. This makes it convenient for users to share photos, videos, documents, and more from their phones or other devices, enhancing the practicality of the projector.

In actual testing, the wireless screen mirroring showed fast connection speeds and high stability, providing a smooth casting experience without any lag or delay.

  • Global Electronic Focus. This feature allows users to quickly achieve a clear and accurate image by adjusting the focus with the ± buttons on any interface. However, during actual testing, multiple adjustments were required to achieve precise focus, and it was not truly global focus. The edges of the image and text areas often failed to focus accurately.

  • Bi-directional Keystone Correction. This portable projector offers 4-point keystone correction and 4-side keystone correction, allowing you to adjust the image vertically and horizontally to achieve the most rectangular shape. You can also set the keystone correction to automatic, but the results are not as good as manual adjustment.

Sound Performance

The built-in speaker of the projector offers loud volume with a wide adjustment range. However, the sound quality is mediocre, lacking depth and richness, only fulfilling the most basic needs. If you have your own audio system, you can connect it via Bluetooth or through a wired connection to enhance your audio experience.

Ports

This portable projector comes with a variety of ports, including HDMI, AV, USB, and a headphone jack. These versatile interfaces allow easy connection to a range of devices such as computers, gaming consoles, USB drives, and headphones. These ports ensure that the projector can be flexibly adapted to meet your needs, enhancing both its convenience and versatility.

Conclusion

This projector is compact, lightweight, and boasts an outstanding design, with notable features such as 360° free rotation, a built-in Android 9.0 operating system, and wireless screen mirroring. However, it falls short in terms of projection quality and sound performance, with lower resolution, limited brightness, and average sound output. Overall, if you don't mind watching in a completely dark environment and have modest expectations for the projection quality, this projector can meet your needs. But if you're looking for a higher-quality audiovisual experience, you might want to consider more premium options.

The 360° free rotation portable smart projector sells for $92.24 USD.
